October 2, 2009, Newsletter Issue #54: Athletes & Massage Therapy

Tip of the Week

Sports fans love their favorite teams almost like a family member. Growing up as a child playing Little League or Pee-Wee Football ingrains in us a love of athletic competition, team work and camaraderie. But not everyone was destined to be a professional athlete in Major League Baseball or the National Football League. And not everyone is wealthy enough to buy their favorite professional sports team.

This does not mean, however, that you cannot end up as an integral part of one of these organizations someday. In becoming a massage therapist, you have the opportunity to work with some of the best athletes in the world. These athletes regularly make use of massage therapy as a way to prepare for games and competitions, to rehab injuries, and deal with chronic pain and stress.

An Instructor at the Cortiva Institute was even asked to provide massage treatments at a qualifying meet for the U.S. Swimming Team heading to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. So you do not have to be rich or the best athlete in the world to be a part of your favorite sport and team. You can help them as a massage therapist, a role they will surely value you in.
